Acne Home Remedies: Do’s and Dont’s

More and more people search the web looking for the best home remedies for acne. They are looking for an all natural treatment that will not involve ingesting or covering themselves in potentially toxic chemicals.

We live in a world where the default mindset to any problem is to go straight the doctor or chemist and blindly follow their advice. Of course, our society would look look very different without modern medicine. We would all be lucky to make to the age of 30 without the medical breakthroughs we have!

However we rely too much on modern medicine and forget that most of what is available first had its roots in nature. Take aspirin for example, did you know it is simply an extract from the bark of a willow tree? All modern antibiotics come from a simple mould, yet they can cure just about any type of bacterial infection, providing the bacteria hasn’t turned into super bug that is. Therefore surely nature must be able to provide us with natural remedies for acne treatment also.

Fortunately there are many products that nature provides that are helpful in our fight against breakouts but none more powerful than having the right diet. Most treatments we seek for acne, whether it be natural or pharmaceutical are only ever treating the symptoms and rarely the cause.

Do Get Your Diet Right

Acne is not caused by a bad diet, but diet plays a huge part in how our bodies cope with the factors that do cause acne – such as hormone removal, skin condition, self healing and so on. Without the proper internal care, the outside organs like the skin can suffer.

It is therefore critical that part of searching for the best home remedies for acne, that you examine your diet. Especially consumption of food and drink, like sweet sodas and alcohol, all which have an impact on your liver, which is key to having healthy skin. Prevention is the best defense against acne as with most illness.

Although the intention of this article is not to go into acne diet tips, the two things most important things you can start doing to treat acne are:

  • Drink plenty of fresh water, at least 8 glasses a day, more if its hot or you exercise
  • Cut out processed food completely

So  that said, what home remedies are there if you have an acne breakout?

Don’t Ever Use Alcohol

Before we start, the first thing to note is to never ever use alcohol to treat acne at home. It is one of the old wives tales that is inadvisable to try.It will severely dry your skin out and causing the skin to overproduce oily sebum to compensate, and more importantly will kill all the bacteria that live on your skin, not just the bad ones. Although it sounds gross, we need good bacteria to perform certain functions such as reduce inflammation and kill the bad bacteria that do trigger acne breakouts.

To keep your skin clean from harmful, acne causing bacteria, wash your face or affected area of your body at least twice a day using a mild, fragrance free soap or face wash. There are plenty of products on the market, so you will have to choose what is best for you and your skin type. Ideally the less ingredients the better. Look out for an article I am writing soon that looks at the best face washes for acne.

Do Try a Lemon Juice Cleanser

Rather than use alcohol or products containing alcohol, lemon juice is one of the best home remedies for acne and produces great results. Instead of killing all the bacteria found living in the face, it targets only the acne causing, more harmful types of bacteria, living the good stuff to do its job.

Lemons are very efficient at cleansing the pores of acne effected skin and will not dry it out, like alcohol. Plus has the added advantage of vitamin C, which is one of the best vitamins for maintaining clear, young looking skin. It also helps fight inflammation caused by acne.

To use, apply small amounts of pure lemon juice to washed skin using a cotton wool pad. There may be stinging so take care when applying to extremely bad areas.

Try an Soothing Oatmeal Face Mask

Oatmeal, such as porridge is exceptionally good for you, the Scots kept the English out for years by eating this stuff! Not only does it help lower bad cholesterol, it provides a slow release energy that keeps you fuelled for a long period helping preventing cravings for less healthy foods.

The kicker is it is also a great home made acne face mask which when used, will help remove excess oils from the skin, unblocking the clogged pores that cause some types of acne breakouts. Here is a very simple recipe for a home made face mask using household ingredients. You will need:

  • 1 tablespoon of good quality oatmeal or rolled oats
  • 2 teaspoons of honey
  • 3/4 teaspoon of lemon juice

Then, when you are ready:

  • Using a small grinder, turn the oatmeal to a powder.
  • In a small bowl, mix the ground oatmeal, honey and lemon juice, 1/4 tsp at a time, until a thick paste is formed.
  • After washing your face, apply face mask onto entire face except eye area for 20-30 minutes.
  • Rinse off the mask by gently massaging in circular motion to loosen.
  • Follow up with your usual routine.

Final Words

So there we have it, some of the best home remedies for acne which are both very simple and effective utilising the power of natural ingredients. Remember, all these are just remedies, to prevent acne from occurring in the first place we should be looking at sustainable and incremental lifestyle changes, that focus on what we eat and drink.

We can then determin what treatments will be the most suitable for you. There are four main types of scars that occur as a result of suffering from acne. These are categorised as:

  • Keloid or Hypertrophic
  • Rolling
  • Boxcar
  • Ice Pick

How Does Laser Scar Removal Work

Laser scar removal can be used on rolling, boxcar and ice picks scar types but not keloid or hypertrophic. It works by using a laser to precisely target your scar tissue skin and burns it off. As a result new, healthy skin can grow in its place, greatly reducing the scarring effect.

The process involves the patient having a local anaesthetic while a laser is passed over the skin up to three times, removing the layers off scar tissue as needed. It is very important to remember that laser scar removal is a very new procedure and has not been around for very long. That means that the techniques used are still evolving and being perfected. The reality is that the results can be somewhat varied.

The cost of laser treatment is expensive, coming in around $3,000-6,000 per treatment. The chances are you may have to undergo the treatment more than once. You may also be able to have the treatment done under a healthcare insurance policy.

The CO2 Acne Scar Removal Laser

The CO2 laser is a very powerful treatment removing deep layers of scar damaged skin. It can have very positive and dramatic results and is favoured in cases of extreme scarring or skin resurfacing. A single treatment for acne scarring usually lasts from 15 to 45 minutes.

The negatives are that the side effects, which include redness of skin and are likely to be much stronger and last longer due to the severity of the treatment. The initial reaction fades after two weeks where the skin begins to recover and heal. Depending on the intensity of the treatment, the healing process will take 1 – 4 months.

Erbium skin or Er:YAG Laser

The Erbium laser is another type of laser used for acne scar removal. This treatment tends to be much milder with greatly reduced side effects. It works by sending highly targeted pulses of light to the scar tissue. An anethetic will also be required due to the pain involved in such a process.

Healing only takes a few days rather than the month or more for the CO2 laser. It is however considered much less effective as a result and is suitable for much lower levels of scarring.

Laser Skin Needling or Fractional Laser

The fractional laser or laser skin needling is a much gentler process and more accessible cost wise. No anaesthetic is required and healing time is much faster. Because of this, it is much more common for more cosmetic based treatments with people using it to treat wrinkles and laughter lines as well as acne scarring. It’s also suitable for patients with darker skin types due to the accurate targeting of the laser.

To treat acne scars you will need about 4/5 treatments each costing up to $1000 each. The side effects are a lot less than the CO2 laser with redness, flakiness and swelling all reducing after just a few days. The fractional laser is suitable for all scar types but not for keloid type scarring.

All of  these types of laser scar removal have the potential to have a lot of lasting side effects. It’s very important to speak to your doctor or dermatologist so you fully understand the risks involved in having such a treatment.

Of course it will not come up in the society without reason behind. Then, does coffee cause acne?

Understand the basic

Caffeine is only a one of compounds inside coffee. Broadly speaking, the amount of compounds in one thing (fruit, vegetable, etc) reach 500. But, coffee has about 1000 chemical compounds. Because of its complex essence there is mix of both health and unhealthy effect to the body.

Before we inspect further, there are two important points to know. First, most acne usually is the result of hormonal imbalance. Second, although caffeine has positive effect like wakes people up and increases focus, it can be harmful too.

Stress-insulin level

Coffee seems to be the right cure when you are stress with any problem you have. On the opposite way, it actually generates the body to produce excessive stress hormone. Then the insulin level will go up higher than it should be. With this level, the skin produces more oil, clog the pore, and worsen the inflammation.

Another unknown compound called mycotoxins might give contribution to acne formation. Equal to caffeine, it can worsen your acne. Most coffee you drink on the street during your break contains mycotoxins. Even if you would like to drink free-mycotoxins coffee, it will be a hard task because only few people who sell/serve that plus the price is very expensive.

Bad eating habit

When you stress, the desire to eat more unhealthy food such (high calorie foods, salty and sweet food, high-carbohydrate snacks, or basically junk food) will increase. Your acne appearance might be the main fault of coffee itself which means other foods above are the culprit that contributes more to your skin problem.

Do you add other thing on your coffee? It is common to see how people put a lot of sugar, milk and other additional ingredients. Especially if you add milk, the coffee will transform into dangerous bomb. Once your blood sugar increases, the skin can be damaged and the immune system will be pressured in a bad way. Some people try to change their daily coffee with black coffee in order to minimize the adverse consequences. Well, the truth is even black coffee still has a chance to cause acne.

Does Coffee Cause Acne?

Since each individual react differently with coffee, you have a bad luck if drink coffee too much frequently on daily basis or more than normal. For example, eating meal right after drinking coffee or take them at the same time may block the nutrient absorption from mineral to vitamins. The high acidity of coffee affects evil bacteria to grow outside the limit while kind bacteria are forced to produce less.

The right way to avoid this problem from your love to coffee, just drink it in average amount sometimes.

Hormonal Therapy and Acne

If you have tried all the different kinds of acne treatment solutions out there and haven’t had any success, then you are probably sitting there frustrated by the fact that you’re losing the battle, and it doesn’t seem like reinforcements are arriving. With so many options out there, why can’t one of them work for you?

If you find yourself in this difficult situation, don’t despair: There is one type of acne solution that may just turn the tide in your favor. Hormonal therapy for acne has been shown to have promising results for those with resistant acne that won’t go away when treated with everything else. Below is some information about this method.

Definition: What Is it?

Hormonal therapy for acne is just what it sounds like: A process that modifies the hormones in your body in an attempt to reverse the acne in your skin. One of the main causes of acne is an excess amount of the male androgen hormones, which cause more oil to be produced by your skin. Keep in mind that both men and women have androgen hormones in their body; males just have a much higher amount. These hormones control the glands that produce skin oil, and if there is an excess of them, the glands enlarge and put out more oil, thus leading to clogged pores and an outbreak of acne. Hormonal therapy involves pills that are taken orally every day, which contain ingredients to control the amount of androgen hormones in the body.

The Science of It: How Does it Work? The Complicated Technical Part

As you have probably put together, hormonal therapy works by reducing the amount of androgen hormones in your system. As mentioned above, these hormones cause the oil producing glands to enlarge, thus leading to clogged pores. By lowering these hormones, there will not be as much oil produced, which means that pores will be clearer and outbreaks will not happen as often or as severely.

It’s All About the Results: What Can I Expect The Good and the Bad

Hormonal therapy for acne has demonstrated positive results for the majority of those who have used it. It is especially effective when combined with other acne treatment methods, such as peroxides or antibiotics, which are more designed to eliminate existing acne instead of preventing future breakouts.

Let’s Stack it Against the Others: How Does it Compare? Pros vs. Cons

In comparison to other acne treatment methods, hormonal therapy can be considered equally effective as other conventional means. The two key points to fighting acne are eliminating the current acne on the skin, and then preventing any outbreaks in the future. Hormonal therapy accomplishes the latter half of this objective, and when combined with another method that performs the former, acne often doesn’t stand a chance.

I’ve Got Money to Spend: Is It Worth It and Does it Have a High Value?

It is difficult to determine the value of hormonal therapy, since it is a prescription medication which may or may not be affected by your insurance. Some insurances cover hormone adjustment medications while others don’t – you will need to check with your provider to see if they do. If you don’t have insurance, or if yours does not cover hormonal therapy, you may find yourself responsible for a very high-priced medication.

Alright, You’ve Convinced Me: Where Can I Find It Today?

To restate, hormonal therapy medications are only available by prescription and can’t be found in a store. If you would like to pursue this option, you should set up an appointment with your doctor and see whether this method is right for you. In conclusion, hormonal therapy has the potential to make the difference when it comes to your fight against acne. When everything else has failed, you can turn to this method and join the thousands of other teens and adults who have found relief. It may be best for you to give your doctor or dermatologist a call and see if this type of acne treatment is right for you.

8 Tips On How To Get Rid Of Acne

Before studying the tips proven to work, let’s look at what causes acne. There is a large number of factors that can cause this aesthetic disorder, but the internal factors are probably most spread. Sleep timings, a poor diet, stress, blood impurities or even hormonal imbalance are some of the most common factors that causes acne.

In addition to all these, the external factors, such as an unhygienic environment and various germs, might also cause acne. An important internal factor is the production of sebum, which is a specific oil created in the body. If sebum is overproduced, the pores of your skin will get clogged. As a direct result, a lot of pimples will appear on the whole body, but especially on the face.

Acne is common at teenagers, still there are some people who may experience this serious disorder at an older age.

Meladerm Cream Ingredients – Meladerm Facts

If you are going to use a cream that will alter your skin tone – such as Meladerm, then it is really important that you know exactly what ingredients you are applying to your skin.

Most other skin lightening creams on the market make use of ingredients that have an element of risk to them. Ingredients like hydroquinone and mercury are present, and it’s these substances that can cause significant damage to your skin.

Here we detail the ingredients and exactly what Civant skincare have included them for, so that you can rest easy that you are not doing permanent damage to your skin whilst you are using Meladerm skin whitening cream.

More in-depth information can be found on the official website, but here we give it to you in a concise and easy to understand format.

Reducing Hyperpigmentation

The following ingredients have been included to reduce hyperpigmentation:

  • Alpha Arbutin is a water soluble ingredient that encourages skin lightening by restricting oxidation of Tyrosine. This enzyme is part of the chain reaction that is triggered by UV light and ends up with the creation of melanins – which are what darkens the skin. Alpha Arbutin also minimizes liver spots and is said to have no side effects.
  • Tego Cosmo C is an amino acid derivative that also inhibits tyrosinase in the melanin creation process. Therefore it is suitable for use in skin brightening creams.
  • Gigawhite is a skin lightener that is derived from 7 different plants (including peppermint and mallow) that are grown organically. Studies have shown that it is an extremely effective skin whitener with the additional benefit of reducing both the size and color or age spots. Tests have concluded that it is safe for cosmetic use. Gigawhite is used as a replacement for Hydroquinone that is present in some other skin lightening products. There are well documented concerns about the use of Hydroquinone, so the fact that Meladerm does not contain this ingredient is comforting.
  • Kojic Acid is produced as part of the process of fermenting malting rice for Japanese sake rice wine. It is a mild skin lightener that restricts production of melanin that makes the skin brown.
  • Licorice Extract is included as part of the plant (Glabridin) restricts tyrosine activity in the same way as Alpha Arbutin does making it an effective skin whitener. It also has the benefit of being non-toxic to the cells that it affects.
  • Niacinamide is actually Vitamin B3 and is present in many foods, including yeast, fish, eggs, green vegetables and beans. It has skin whitening properties that work by restricting the transfer of melanin to the outer layer of the skin, therefore reducing skin color.
  • Mulberry Root Extract is obtained from the root of the mulberry/fig family. The extract used is a very strong inhibitor of the tyrosinase enzyme and therefore demonstrates powerful skin lightening properties.
  • BearBerry Extract is commonly referred to as Arbutin. Again it is a tyrosinase inhibitor as many other ingredients are. It is actually a derivative of Hydroquinone but does not break down easily and is considered safe for use.
  • Glycolic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that encourages skin exfoliation. This encourages cell production which helps to even out skin marks and also helps other ingredients to penetrate further into the skin.
  • Lactic Acid is also an alpha hydroxy acid that is suitable for sensitive skin. It behaves in the same way as Glycolic acid above.
  • Lemon Juice Extract and other citrus extracts have natural skin bleaching properties. Although they can be harsh on the skin in pure form, when used in moderation are a good addition to a skin whitening product.
  • Vitamin C in its various forms are antioxidants and some have demonstrated that they have an ability to reduce the production of melanin.

As you can see from the above list of ingredients, they are all targeted at specific areas of skin whitening. The combined effect of these ingredients are what makes Meladerm such a successful product. Some ingredients may work for an individual better than others, but the combination has been shown to be effective – the large amount of positive reviews are evidence of this.
